HI!
Is Avast capable to protect a TLS authorized email account such as Gmail.
P.S. i’m using The Bat v3.62.14 pro
tnx.
Avast mail scanner doesn’t support SSL (Secure Socket Layer) connections. But take a look here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=10428.0 to see how to set up secure email with avast!. Advanced configuration: please refer to this post http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=8775.msg97026#msg97026
Since SSL/TLS e-mail is encrypted and decrypted in the client, external virus scanners (including avast!) can’t read or scan it.
The solution is to pass e-mail in and out un-encrypted from your client (Outlook Express, Thunderbird, …) to a proxy program (Stunnel) that does the actual ssl or tls encryption/decryption of the pop3/smtp e-mail and communicates directly with the ISP server on the appropriate ports. Another drivers (OpenSSL) are need as a library of encryption/decryption routines.
Stunnel now comes as an installer which installs Open SSL and Stunnel so now you just have to download the installer version from here http://www.stunnel.org/download/binaries.html
I don’t know if this works in conjunction with avast The Bat plugin.
I know it works for Outlook Express or Thunderbird, for instance.
I would say possibly if you are using avast’s ‘the bat’ plug-in, because like the Outlook/Exchange plug-in for MS Outlook avast would be integrated within the bat and should be able to scan the content before it is converted, etc.
All I can suggest is try and see if it works, if not you would be forced to look at the use of Stunnel as Tech mentions, but that may or may not work with the bat and the avast plug-in.
H!
Thank you for your advice.
