Avast 4.8.1169 question

I have a vintage Panasonic laptop from the early 2000’s that is running 4.8, I have tried to download a later version, but refuses to run it. How long will 4.8 be serviced for in regard to definition updates, it is still an awesome a/v!

In all honesty if the Operating system isn’t win9.x or winME, it would be better to install the latest version if at all possible.

Why won’t the latest/later version run and what version was that ?

It is still supported for virus definition updates until the end of this year as far as I’m aware.

Thanks DavidR have managed to download ver 7.0 free and its taken it OS is Windows 2000 Pro, has only 190 odd RAM so hope will be enough!

Yes 190MB will be a bit on the low side, but compared to avast 4.8 avast7’s resource use is comparable.

The only issue with win2k would be it has to be SP4 and include the rollup1 update, presumably it has that ?

Whilst this from avast5 days, it is still applicable for avast7.

Hello CityKiwi!

As you can see in my signature, I am working with 256MB on one PC and it works without problems.
Windows 2000 and avast! 7 Free has a memory consumption of approx. 120MB at idle (direct after startup).
So there should be enough resources for the additional programs.
But nevertheless:

  1. pay attention that there are not too many programs in the autostart of your Laptop.
  2. install SP4 and UR1 as DavidR and myself (see: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=97019.msg774289#msg774289) already mentioned.

Have a nice day!
