I have this problem that occurs between my Avast Antivirus Software and Bluebeam PDF Revu, a program used to modify PDF files.
This is what happens:
I’m in a lecture taking notes on my tablet PC, using Revu to make pen strokes on the PDFs the professors give us.
Everything is fine until I go to save the PDF. Once I hit save, Revu freezes up and ashServ.exe appears in the Task manager and begins using up all the processing power of one of the two cores on my computer, slowing the computer down and eating up precious battery life.
I know it’s definitely a conflict between Revu and Avast’s Standard Shield Service, as I tested Revu with Avast running without an internet connection to my computer.
Unfortunately, once this starts, the only way to stop it and get my other processor back is to completely restart the computer. Neither pausing nor terminating the Standard Shield Service stops ashServ.exe from eating the computer’s resources.
For now, this is annoying, especially when I’m trying to save battery life and take lecture notes.
Is there any way I can prevent this conflict and still be able to use both Revu and Avast at the same time?
Here is all the information I can think that you’d need:
Computer Specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit, with SP1
Intel Core2 Duo T7700, 2.4 GHz
4.00 GB DDR2 RAM
Avast Specs:
Home Version 4.8
Standard Shield Version 4.8-1351
Sensitivity is Normal for all services
More Information on the conflicting program can be found by googling:
Bluebeam PDF Revu Standard Edition
(I wasn’t sure whether or not this board allowed hyperlinks or if that counted as spam).
If anyone wishes to test this conflict for themselves and try to find a solution, you can download the trial version.
Here is an interesting observation:
When I go to file containing the PDF file that I modified, there are two files by the same name:
–One is the actual PDF document, successfully saved with all the changes that I made.
–Two is a .pdf~ file, which bears the same name as the document, and has size and date modified of the file before the last save, which means that it is a back-up.
This means that Revu and Avast don’t start fighting until after the file writing is complete.
My initial guess is that the creation of this back-up file with a weird extension is what causes Avast to start retching.
Is there a way I can get a list of the files scanned by the Standard Shield service so that I can verify this?
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me resolve this program conflict.
