Avast 4.8 but Windows says virus protetection out of date??

I run on Windows XP.

I’ve had Avast for ages with no probelms, however today I have been notified that my virus protection is supposedly out of date? I have 4.8 installed, the latest version. There seems to be nothing to update, although I’ve tried updating everything anywhere I can to make sure. I’ve requested and inserted the key again, and it says it will run for another year.

I think something is wrong though - IE won’t work properly - I can’t get messages from my hotmail, when I try to click on them nothing happens, and IE just loads more and more tabs onto the window until I have to pull the plug. However I’ve ran a full scan and nothing!

Any ideas please? I would be very grateful.

I take it that you mean the Windows Security Center tells you this ?
What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 4.8.1335 and 090207-0 (see about avast!) ?

Ensure that your system date is correct (day/Month/Year) and adjust as required.
