Typically this is because of having another Anti-Virus or remnants of one still on your system.
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Asquared works OK with Avast. Asquared is not an antivirus (it’s an antimalware), have you ever had another antivirus installed with or before Avast?

What is your Operating System, please?
Try a repair of Avast, from the Control Panel, Add/remove programs, select “Avast”, select “change/remove”, wait, then select “repair”, then “next”.

OK another thing to try:

Menu, Display Remnants, Log Viewer Remnants, Graphics glitches, etc.
Edit the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini using Notepad.
Find the [Common] section in the avast4.ini file, add the following line to the section
SunbeltKPFHack=2
Save the file.
You will be prompted by the avast! Self-defence module if this is OK answer Yes.

i don’t have any answers to help , but a problem myself, i am running windows xp pro on my new laptop, i have downloaded avast home 4.8 onto it i am getting a message saying i have upgraded some files on my OS, and that i need to install it again, has anyone encountered this ?, and if so what can i do to fix it , as installing it again hasn’t seemed to help thanks for any help
