Avast 4.8 Help Please ??

Hi, I’m a new user of avast 4.8 Home edition with XP SP2 OS, Celeron Mobile 1.5 GHZ n no other antivirus software. The problem is I can’t update my avast subscription, even I have registered my account. I’ve tried to download the update manually n try to install manually but it showed some error message as follow:

Can’t install VPS update. Please report following errorcodes:
Ver:4.8.1229
SI:0x00000002
ST:0xFFFFFFFF
LE:0x00000000

O, btw, I’m using a dial up modem.

Really appreciate your help.

Rgds

Welcome Phil Xu

Using dial-up will be a problem to get your system up to date.

First avast! is now at Build 4.8.1351 so that is one reason you can not get the updates and it is a 30MB download to update.

Second WinXP SP3 has been available for over a year so you should go to Tools then Windows Update in Internet Explorer and install all updates as it provides performance enhancements and several Critical updates.

Order the SP3 CD from Microsoft as it only takes about a week to arive and will only cost a few Dollars or whatever your currency demands:

You can share it with your friends.

Go to the SSL page version and register from there: https://secure.avast.com/scripts/register.php?lang=ENG. The Registration key is valid for 14 months.

Hi YoKenny & Tech,

Thx for your reply. Actually, I have downloaded the update installer so I can manually install the update of the virus database as my friends always do, but when I click the install button, the error message shown as follows:

Can’t install VPS update. Please report following errorcodes:
Ver:4.8.1229
SI:0x00000002
ST:0xFFFFFFFF
LE:0x00000000

Any suggestion please? Thx .

Btw, I have registered and nothing changed. I still can’t update the virus database.

Did you add the key? See the tutorial: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/insert_key.htm
Check your system time and date.
If nothing works, maybe you need to try an installation from the scratch.
