How can I be sure Avast is not configured to block Scripts, ActiveX controls, or Java applets? When I log onto my hotmail account, I’m unable to open my email. When I click on one to open it all that happens is I get the word “javascript” appear in the lower left hand corner. The poeple at hotmail support suggested I check my antivirus program because I’ve already reconfigured Internet Explorer fo optimization and that hasn’t helped. I’ve already installed the latest version of Java.
avast does not block anything, just scans.
It will block an script if it is infected. The Home version does not have this feature (script scanning).
Uninstall old Java versions, set Internet Explorer to its defaults and nothing should be blocked…
Oh, I suggest using Firefox with NoScript and not Internet Explorer…
Easy it doesn’t have any checks on activeX controls other than it would scan the xxxx.ocx file and then it is looking for infection. The same would be true of JAVA applets.
I think the people at Hotmail are taking the easy way out.
JAVA is different to javascript and as far as I’m aware Hotmail doesn’t use JAVA applets, but it would surely use javascript. I don’t use IE any more but your customisations/optimisations could be at issue if any of those involves the security settings.
You could try setting the IE security settings back to the default or Medium level and see if that works. Sorry I can’t be of much practical help with IE I really don’t like it and haven’t used it for years.
Have you tried accessing Hotmail with another browser, firefox or opera ?
I’m trying to optimize Internet explorer so that trusted sites such as my ISP are recognized as such. I typed *.netzero.com and *.netzero.net,(my ISP) in both Security and Advanced “sites” to allow them both but it didn’t seem to take. Do you have another suggestion of what to type in there so that IE recognizes them as trusted sites?
Sorry I don’t other than the previous suggestions.
