Avast! 4.8 Home Edition updating issue.

Dear Sir or Madam

I’m running Avast! 4.8 Home Edition ( Italian localized ) under Windows XP Pro ver. 2002 Service Pack 2.

I’m experiencing troubles in keeping Avast! updated; the only I get are two warnings:
“Downloading servers.def.vpu …”
“I can’t connect to the server”

Initially my conjecture was the firewall Zone Alarm ver. 4.5 was denying Avast!
the access to the net. But nor giving Avast! components all grants to connect
neither totally shutting down Zone Alarm solved the issue.

I also unsuccessfully tryed removing Zone Alarm from the autostart software group and rebooting
the pc.

I’m inside a LAN; do you believe the router responsible for that ?
I’m very doubtful on the hypothesis because others pcs ( same software equipped with ) have no
difficulties while don’t enjoying any permission from the router’s settings.

May be uninstalling Avast! and replacing it with a newer version could help ?

Any hint is very appreciated.

Thanks for reading me.
Best regards.

You have a fairly old program version, 4.8.1368 is the latest 4.8 version so I would advise doing a manual program update, that also does a VPS update.

You also have the option to install the new avast 5.0.
