avast! 4.8 Home won't update

I just installed avast! from the file setupeng, as I also had the error 301 trying to install from the downloader.
Now Win XP says my antivirus software is out of date.
I run iAVS and get this response:

Information about current update: Total time 5 s
  • Vps: Already up to date
    (current version 091015-0)

Server: download79.avast.com (75.126.53.165)
Downloaded files: 2 (0.02 KB)
Download time: 1 s

However when I go to About avast! I get:

VPS file (virus database)
Compilation date: 24/09/2009
File version: 090924-0

So it seems there is some communication problem ?

First - Ensure yoyr system date is correct day/month/year and adjust as required.

Second - Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.

Third - If the above don’t have any impact jet back to the topic as the Windows Security Center can be a little flaky and we have a couple of tips for that.

The same problem is happening with me. I did the repair method which you suggested and that didn’t seem to correct the Windows issue. Any other tips for Windows Security Center?

Sometimes, Windows Security Center stops recognizing your antivirus or firewall… So, check your system time and date and also http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23457.msg193534#msg193534

Thanks for the quick response. I decided to restart my computer just out of habit and curiosity and that did the trick. Thanks again.

You’re welcome. Feel free to come back any time you need help or just to change experiences 8)
