Avast 4.8 install error on vista

I am staying at a friends house, and i recieved a message saying that someone was trying to hack me. this is what is in the log.

20.04.2008 01:20:59 LSASS Exploit (EXP) attack
from 213.42.176.117:445

So, I ask my friend if he has an anti-virus, because his comp was on. He didn’t have an anti-virus or firewall.

He is running Vista.

His computer re-starts for the install/scan.

half way though the scan, his computer shuts off, (like it got unplugged)
he re-boots, and vista does a security check, which took 20 minuts.
once loaded, within 30 seconds, avast popped up stating that it required the system to re-start to scan and complete installation.

he hasn’t re-started yet, should he, and what else should he do.

Try to repair the installation first?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can he uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Does he use any other antivirus in the past in this computer?
He’s brave (or crazy): Vista and without any antivirus and firewall ::slight_smile:
