Avast 4.8 memory scan do not function

Hi all.
I am using Avast 4.8 on Intel core duo 1.6 GHz, 2GB ram, WinXP pro with SP2 PC
At installation time this PC was infected with Win32:Confi[Wrm] in file “fzmzki.dll” which was removed by Avast at boot time scan.

But before and after this scan whenever I start right click avast icon in system tray and select “Start avast! antivirus” I get a blank OK dialog box (nothing in title, no message). After clicking OK avast memory scanning box appears but nothing happens, it remains idle, no memory scanning happens.
I have to manually close this from windows task bar, then avast window appears.

I will be thankful to you all for giving any info on this misbehavior.

I think you should repair your software from avast uninstall window.

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the latest avast! version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Did you have another antivirus program installed on the computer before you installed Avast? Sometimes there are parts of the old A/V program left over that can cause problems with new avast installs.

But try Tech’s instructions first. It may just be a corrupt installation.
