Avast! 4.8 No Update Notification?

May I ask if there was a notification of an update to Avast! 4.8? If there was I seem to have missed it and have only just heard it is available.

Is it advisable to update using the right-click globe> updating> update program method or should I uninstall 4.7 first and and then download 4.8?

The main reason I ask is that from reading the posts here, it seems as if there might be somethong to be gained, or at least, problems avoided by starting afresh rather than adding to quite an old copy of Avast! Home Edition 4.7.

Presently running XP Sp2, SpyWareBlaster, Spybot S&D (immunised and with recent anti-rootkit plug-ins), Windows Defender, ( and a fairly healthy dose of paranoia).

The program updates are spread over a 7 day cycle to balance server load as the program update can be much larger than the VPS updates. It is the luck of the draw if you are on day 1 or day 7 of the cycle.

Now you know it is available there is no need to wait, do a manual program update, right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select Updating, Program Update.
