**** AVAST 4.8 NOW OFFICIALLY RELEASED ****

I wish the problem of slow computer start up with 4.8 would’ve been fixed before being “OFFICIALLY RELEASED”.

Hopefully it will be fixed soon. My system with 2.2 gig Celeron & 448 mb RAM strains at start up (between 5-6 minutes).

I’ll be watching the threads for a week to see if much problems reported before I install 4.8. Looks an interesting upgrade though particularly the rootkit module so well done the Alwil boys.

thanks avast!team for the version 4.8.-running great on my hp laptop which has windows xp and the one below in my signature which has vista

There really isn’t any reason to wait as the Pros outweigh any possible niggles (if they turn up) the beta trial went well and there were 4 beta releases to fix what was found. So I would say get in before the crowd.

I’ve tried it: unfortunately avast 4.8 home identifies a lot of false positive… I was forced to uninstall it :frowning:

Wow… I can’t see avast detecting as much as false positives as you’ve seeing… are you sure they’re false positives?
Can you send the files to virus (at) avast (dot) com saying why do you think they’re false positives and they can analyze them? Thanks.

First of all, post a few examples of the filenames you think are false positives…
(and the reported virus names as well)

Thanks Vlk

P.S. If you have any issues with the new build, don’t post in this thread. Instead, start a new one.

The beta tests went well for me and now I have the official release of 4.8 also working well.

Great job, avast/awil team !

Wow great that was a good news. ;D Thanks for it. 8)

I relented and took David’s advice to update now  Very smooth taking just 70 seconds. Am I right in understanding that if I wanted to perform just a rootkit scan, I just need to restart my laptop?

if you restart your laptop only a quick scan will be performed - if you use professional version you can start a rootkitscan via the enhanced user interface…

the rootkitscan also will be done if you perform a normal system scan…

or you wait for the Antirootkit Standalone-tool

Thankyou onlysomeone (are you on the Alwil team, by the way, as you seem to be replying to a lot of recent queries?). I have the Home free version so it’s the paid for Professional version that has the separate rootkit scanning module/options.

We aren’t really supposed to ask questions in this notification topic (it will get bogged down/very large and confused), but open a new topic.

However, the anti-rootkit scan is I believe an integral part of the scan carried out on windows boot and I believe also if you schedule a boot-time scan. I don’t know if this is also in the on-demand scan (run from the simple user interface).

Start a new thread and I’ll respond there.

 No, I’m not - I’m just a wiseacre who has some free time ;D
