Avast 4.8 pro - On access protection

Hi people i’m new to this forum, i’m using avast 4.8 pro version…
earlier i used to see a icon rotatin in the tray - on access protection, but few days back it stopped showing up… i dono how to bring that icon back, i’m not sure whether the on access protection is running or not…

soluyion might be to uninstall and do a fresh install of Avast.

Can you try a repair of Avast?

Start–>Control panel → add or remove programs -->avast antivirus -->change/remove–>scroll down and select repair

EDIT:You can be sure if the on access protection is still working by looking for the ash*.exe entries in the processes list of task manager

  1. Check the option in the Appearance tab of settings.
    or
  2. Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
    or
  3. Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder
    or
  4. Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?

Thanks a lot guys when i repaired it the icon came back…

my system is getting slow and takes a lot of time to boot… my friends say it is bcoz of avast…

Avast is a relatively light program,

what is your system setup (RAM processor etc.)

also you could delay the initial update of Avast at boot:

mine is an old system… pentium IV wit 512 MB RAM, but when i formatted it was fast but now relatively slow

My pc only has 256MB RAM and is fairly old, and I admit it is fairly slow to startup but then there are a fair few programs installed, it’s not exactly as it was out of the box

did you delay the startup?

ya i delayed it…

;D think mistake is on my part too… i won turn off my computer… it ll keep running for days and my browser won be closed too
