avast 4.8 questions

I’ve used avast for several years. Over the weekend, our 2nd computer crashed and I had to reformat and reinstall Windows. I went to avast and downloaded the newest version - 4.8 and set it up on the computer.

I noticed that the blue a in the bottom right toolbar has a small red circle attached to the icon. It looks like a “Do Not Enter” street sign - red circle with a line through the diagonal. Investigating further, I found that the On-Resident portion of the program is disabled. The blue a indicates 6 on resident processes, but none are running. I can’t seem to enable them. Also, if I choose the Web Shield, and double click on it - I receive an error indicating that it can’t be started.

I uninstalled it through the folder and then reinstalled. Now, none of the six on-resident processes show up on the left-hand column.

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions?

When you reinstall Windows, does any antivirus come with the setup? I mean, like preinstalled?
Try an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the latest avast! version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Add when to list, uninstall using their uninstaller any anti-virus that was included with OS
before re-installing Avast.

Are you talking about Norton?
