AVAST 4.8 SENDING ICMP PING?

Within the last 3 weeks i have been getting a popup prompt from my firewall(filesclab) saying that;

LOCAL SYSTEM IS SENDING ICMP(PING) TO VARIOUS IP’S SUCH AS;
74.55.74.102
75.125.246.162
75.125.223.178
etc

IT ALSO GIVES THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION;

APPLICATION ashServ.exe
FULL PATH c:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4.…
DESCRIPTION avast! antivirus service
PRODUCT NAME avast! antivirus
COMPANY NAME ALWIL Software
FILE VERSION 4, 8, 1296, 0
PROTOCOL/DIRECTION ICMP/Out
LOCAL IP/PORT
REMOTE IP/PORT
TIME

Thus far I have been blocking them from accessing the network as I have heard that there have been hackers & such. The requests come every minute back to back. I did a IP search and came up with THE PLANET.COM & something to the effect that it is some server. I also spotted in some other forums where some have said they received repeated requests for access from similar IP’s which led to THE PLANET.COM but no additional information, no response from them whatsoever when others tried querying them.
Can anyone advise on this matter.

It’s a little hard to keep your antivirus program updated if you don’t allow it access to the internet.

The IP addresses are all servers of avast.com.

And so, this is the owner of the servers (or at least some of the servers) that avast uses for updates and possibly other services. These particular servers are located in the USA … as are you. :slight_smile:
