Dear sir,
I read that avast! version 5 will come out this summer 2009. But when will support ends for avast! Home Edition 4.81335 or the last version of avast! Home Edition before avast! version 5?
Support for old versions is generally discontinued with the release of the latest version as it isn’t support for a version specifically but for the product, avast 4 Home/Pro.
So with 4.8 you would be notified that there is a program version update available and it would be your choice to download an install it.
The exception to this is for old OSes, win95/98/ME which in this case will have to stay on version 4.8 as the new version 5 doesn’t support these OSes. So 4.8 support will continue for these OSes at least to the end of this year (after that nothing has been made known).
So what is your OS ?
If you are able to update to version 5 but choose not to then the new functionality that will be available will not be included in version 4.8, so those that stay with 4.8 won’t see any benefit of the new developments.
My father has 98SE and I know that for this OS support ends this year 2009. But I thought about install avast! on my brother’s computer with XPSP2 and I wanted to know if it is of any use. It has to be avast! 4.8.1335 with AntiSpyware and Free. avast! 5 AntiVirus is also free, but has no AntiSpyware and is therefore not favourite. If the updates for 4.8 ends soon it is not useful to install avast! 4.8. I wanted to know when the updates for 4.8 or the last version of avast! before version 5 ends!
It’s not right, avast is and will continue to be an antispyware protection.
They could keep the updates more time after the end of the year. Anyway, you won’t find that many options (with a good protection) to Windows 98 anymore. ClamAv is an option (with a poor detection rate).
New OS are more secured and safe + many more good game.
Thanks for your quick responses, sirs!
You’re welcome.
