on 18th may, i had updated Avast 4.7 … it got updated with latest bt then Page file & cpu usage of windows shotup drastically …
i didnt realize this [though abt some prog problem] so yestrday i formatd my machine & on freshly installed XP had same problem after updating avast …
2day this is my 3rd freshly installed XP & till now i havnt updated avast [now 4.8] so no problem …
y is this happening on updating avast ?
Can you rephrase? Are you saying that updating avast the CPU and virtual memory consumption rose? Which other programs are running? Any other security program?
1st … i was online with just FFox … then when updation was over … both cpu & PF usage rose like never before …
i thought it was ff bt closing it & restarting also didnt help …
2day i have FReSH installed XP without updated avast virus list, it working fine …
so am afraid 2 update it … any1 facing same problem ?
Well, I’m (and tons of other users) using Firefox and avast 4.8 without problem and CPU peaks…

What about trying to scan on-line all your computer?
There are Kaspersky, ESET, BitDefender or TrendMicro on-line scanners…
