Avast 4 Home crashes Outlook 2003

Hi all

I’ve tried Avast 4 Home Edition, it looks nice but I have an issue:

  • When I install Avast it regularly crashes my Outlook (2003).
  • Outlook becomes stable again as soon as I uninstall Avast.
  • I’ve tried to disable the Outlook and email services, but it does not change anything.
  • My OS is Win XP SP2.
  • My Outlook version 11.5608.5606

Is that a know problem?

Any particular error messages (accompanying the crash)?

Let me guess: you have MSN Search Toolbar installed.
If so, that would explain it.

So… what?

Should I just remove that toolbar from IE or should I remove the whole MSN Search Engine from XP (I use it to search everything on my laptop, emails, files, not only on IE)?

I think removing the toolbar would be enough. Microsoft has already recognized it has this bug you’re experiencing.
At least, I’ve used MSN Search Engine without problems with XP SP2 and avast.
You can search the board for ‘MSN Toolbar’ and you’ll find more info.

EricSamson, If you send me an email with a link to this thread, I’ll give you a pre-release version of the MSN Search product that should have the problem fixed.
