You may try to open the \data\avast4.ini file and in the [Common] section, change the item Database=ODBC to Database=XML. This could prevent the Microsoft Jet drivers from accessing the database… does it have any (positive) effect?

IF you don’t fancy manually editing avast4.ini, RejZor’s AEC avast! External Control program is able to do it from a user friendly interface.

Changed avast.ini from ODBC to XML, It doesn’t work.
What i should do next,
Thanks

What’s the OS ? What’s the other antivirus you have installed on your system, or you had installed before avast! ? It may be that there still are some leftovers from previous antivirus.

Have you restarted your system after changing database value from ODBC to XML ? It’s very important to restart your sytem.

Post your details and we’ll see from there… anyway, you may need to try repairing of avast! installation or even better completely reinstall this program.

Cheers !

Thanks, everyone ;D
It’s working now!!
i tried to restart, so working.

My perfect antivirus
But I doubt why i had to changed from ODBC to XML?

Fresh XP install. I never install other A/V before.
I tried repaired or new install avast but didn’t work.

I told you, you have to restart your system after changing database value…

Don’t doubt anything, just leave it on XML  Believe me…

If you ask which is better ODBC or XML? I’ll say that for the Home version, they are equal.

For the Professional version of avast!, XML is missing some functionality (compared to ODBC), so switching avast! Pro to XML storage is not a good idea: ODBC makes it possible to store the past sessions in the Professional version - which is not possible with XML. Appart from this, Enhanced User Interface behaves strange when switched to XML storage - when a task is started, another instance of it appears in the list (of the tasks, not of the corresponding sessions!). Alwil did not explore the problem deeper yet, so it could be a bug or just something caused by the inability to store additional info in the storage. Right now, XML storage is currently considered just a backup option for avast! Home.

So with Professional version, try to update the Jet drivers (MDAC package) and see if it helps (http://www.microsoft.com/data).

It should have auto switch if ODBC to XML automatic.

The solution of my problem was this!

forgives me for the horrible English!
