Hi Avast! Team, and all members of this forum, those who have similar issues regarding auto-updates in Avast! 5.0.418 Free. I have finally resolved this enigmatic and troublesome issue. I think that my solution should work for every Avast! 5.0.418 Free user, that have been facing this problem, especially those, whose additional firewalls are apparently preventing Avast! 5.0.418 Free from being auto-updated. This is it:
[]First you have to uninstall your current, additional troublesome firewall (you don’t have to deactivate Windows Defender, it’s conflict-free!)
[] Then download from http://free.agnitum.com/trial-pay/ and install an Outpost Firewall Free 2009 6.5.1 (2725.10028) on your computer
That’s all you have to do!
PS After this process you have to reboot and then simply allow the Avast!'s 5.0.418 Free AVAST.SETUP component to connect by checking option “Allow all activities”, of course if you have chosen “Disable automatic rule creation” during an initial installation of Outpost Firewall Free 2009. If you haven’t, you won’t even have to worry about this. Henceforth Avast! 5.0.418 Free will be auto-updating the virus definitions, as well as current version of Avast! itself, if there’ll be such available, without any glitch.
Best regards to all!
This topic is of zero worth as there should be no need to change firewalls just to get avast to update, there are many such topic in the forums and they have been resolved by ensuring that their current firewall is set correctly to allow avast to update.
Add to that the link to a trial pay option for me is of a dubious nature.
I like the Outpost Firewall I have been using it in many versions from way back at the Outpost 1.0 free and it has never let me down. So anyone considering the Outpost free firewall can get it directly without having to go through any trial pay link.
I tend to give the benefit of doubt (and point out direct link download options not having to go through trial pay), perhaps the link was one not intended as spam but in error perhaps as there is no benefit to the OP.
It isn’t like an affiliate link where they get a remuneration, this is unfortunately Agnitum having a deal with Trial Pay to presumably get some back for the supposed free version…
My comment wasn’t one in search of a direct link, but that the OP may not have intended to spam as that link is the one direct from Agnitum (not an affiliate link), but they Agnitum are using trial pay to serve it up.
That is why I gave a direct link to filehippo.com in my first post, Reply #6 ;D
