My CPU usage process AvastSvc.exr relating to AVAST version 5.9.507 in task manager was yo-yoing from 25-100% up to a few hours ago,my pc was getting into a lockup situation and i was unable to use my browser or any programs as a result, hard drive flashing away like crazy.
I tried to to see what if something was causing this although avast seemed to be the culprit?:-
1/TURN OFF ALL AVAST SHILEDS-no result
2/TURN OFF FIREWALL-NO RESULT
3/SUPEND THREAFIRE-NO RESULT
4/EXIT WINPATROL-NO RESULT
5/TURN OFF SPYWARE TERMINATOR-NO RESULT
6/EXIT WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER-NO RESULT
7/DISCONNECT FROM INTERNET/TURN OFF ROUTER-NO RESULT
8/TURN OFF ALL PROGRAMS IN USE-NO RESULT.
9/LOOK IN MSCONFIG to see if anything running not required-no result
10/SPYWARE SCANS,VIRUS SCANS-NO RESULT.
11/REPAIR AVAST-NO RESULT
12,Check to make sure no scans in progress ok-no result
11/TURN OFF COMPUTER 1 HOUR-RESULT
CPU back to about 7% firefox, winpatrol running and all other programs back to normal,i ma keeping a close eye on the cpu use but so far so good!,any one any ideas on this one?,i know there has already been a post on this one but has avast any idea what caused this?.
Well I would have started with a reboot rather than effectively last in the list.
Though what is surprising is the fact that turning all of the shields of had no result as they (with the exception of avastUI.exe) are all controlled by avastSvc.exe so if they aren’t scanning I don’t know how they could generate activity in avastSvc.exe.
So it may have been that avastSvc.exe had somehow locked at that CPU rate continued to be reported. That however is speculation on my part. The only real way to check anything is if it happens again, is the avast icon rotating (scanning activity in progress) when the CPU % is high for avastSvc.exe.
The other is to produce a dumprep on avastSvc.exe to gather information for Vlk, Igor, etc.
Sorry i mistakenly should of said i “re-booted” and as a result pc shutdown then restarted then all seemed ok!!-weird eh?,al seems still ok at 7% cpu usage general,AvastSfc.exe at 0% cpu usage.
I’m having the same problem.
Avast takes nearly 100% of the CPU (between 90 and 98 % depending on other programs).
It slows the whole system down. When the screen saver is active it takes about 1 minute before the system is back.
I check processes with Process explorer.
Has Windows 7 something to do with this problem? I haven’t read any solution about this problem.
