Hi
I’ve been running 4.8 pro and recently got the message that it was about to expire so I upgraded to 5.0.507. I followed the instructions & downloaded the newer version, got my new reg key in my email, clicked on the download to install and it shows files transferring & then it stops and nothing else happens. I checked & I’m still running 4.8, the newer version never installed and I’m still getting the message that my avast is about to expire in 13 days when I’ve already purchased the new key. My OS is Vista & my browser is FF.
Personally I would suggest you download the off-line installation file as it sounds like you tried an on-line download and install in one movement. If at any point you experience a problem then I guess the install fails.
I don’t know if this failed installation might have some other issues later, so it might be best to prepare in advance. So I would suggest a clean installation of avast 5.0:
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0).
Now uninstall avast 4.8 (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.0 (just in case any remnants of the failed install attempt), once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest avast 5.0 pro version you saved to your hard disk, reboot.
