avast 5.0.590 : always problems : unable to get new VPS-definitions + outlook ex

???

I used the former versions of avast for several yers, and i installed this morning the new version of avast. I had two problems : impossible to get the latest virus definitions and to update the program files.

I follow some discussions on this forum and i install the latest version 590…

The same problem exists : the server for the new program or for the VPS is not found.
I work with the basis firewall of indows (XP), and i still have the problem…
How to solve this ?

I have another problem : i can’t download my mails in outlook express.
I need to stop the mail protection to download my mails !!!

I think i will leave avast if these problems are not solved !

Are you using any other protection with Avast or just Avast5 …I would also see if Avast 4 has been properly uninstalled…go to your Program files and see if there is Avast 4.8 there and Avast 5 shouldn’t really make a difference if they are both there but I guess it could…Also I would do a SuperAntiSpyware scan in safe mode…or Malwarebytes…Superantispyware scans for tracking cookies though… and sometimes if updates aren’t working could be tracking cookies blocking them… Also are you using firefox or Internet explorer? If you are using Internet explorer as default browser…Open Internet explorer and see if it opens properly… and if Avast Updates are Blocked somewhere…Let me know how it goes…

One of my problems is now solved : avast get connection to download new versions of the program and of the virus database.

The other problem is not yet solved : impossible to download my messages in outlook express.
I used before avast 4.8, without any problems. I also used the firewall of windows XP SP3.
all the settings are correct : SSL is not quote, nor for the smtp, nor for the pop.
But the connection to my proficer (skynet.be in Belgium) failed.

How to solve this problem ???

thanks in advance
