Avast 5.0 default actions confusion

Two lots of “If action fails, then” is not exactly clear, far better would be:

Default action

1st Alternate action (if default fails)

2nd Alternate (if 1st alternate also fails)

or some variation thereof.

If you selected Repair as the default action then if that failed (not all files can be repaired), then the first alternative would be send to chest say, if that failed then the 3rd alternative might be Ask.

But that really has to be your choice.

Me I’m not a fan of automated actions, I want to know what is going on in my system and want to control the actions. So my first action is Ask, which in theory should never fail, but I have move to chest as my second action and No Action as my 3rd action in the File System Shield.

Then there is the PUP and Suspicious tabs, where you can further adjust the defaults.

Then there are the other shields that have actions and they have limited actions because of their functionality, e.g. web shield, since the infection isn’t (or shouldn’t be) on your system some options won’t be available, e.g. Repair.

All in all if your knowledge of malware, etc. isn’t great it is perhaps best to leave the default settings as is.

You seem to have misunderstood my post, I’m saying that the titles given for the default action and its fall-backs should be clearer, I’m not making any comment as to what those actions are.
