I have avast 4.8 and went to avast.com to download 5.0. The first time I clicked on ‘upgrade from 4.8’, it took me to a site called Softonic to download it from there. The 2nd time I tried it from ‘new products’ but when I click download 5.0, it takes me to cnet.com to download it from there. Why doesn’t avast have a direct download for 5.0 instead of automatically directing to other websites to download?
It is spreading the server load, with over 130 million+ users it takes some managing when a program download is around 50MB.
You don’t say what version you have and were truing to download free/home or Pro ?

Try uninstalling 4.8…then go to cnet.com and download 5.0 free Downloading from cnet.com is safe and secure. I get my downloads from cnet.com and never had a problem.
@ Para-Noid
Given your user name I would have thought your response would have been, well more Para-Noid.
Never uninstall your existing AV before going and getting its replacement, being on-line without protection is like hanging out on the internet with your virtual trousers round your ankles.
As for using cnet, when you have been given a direct link for the product on avast servers, no contest, get it direct. What could be more safe and secure than getting it from the company that made it.
