Avast 5.0 no tray icon

Hi,

I just installed version 5.0.462 and it seems to be running fine but there is no tray icon.
In Basic Settings it is set to show and animate the icon.

Installed in W7. Any ideas?

Have you Restarted your computer yet?

Was it a clean install of Avast 5 ?
OR
Was Avast 5 an update from Avast 4.8 ?

Clean install.
I just went back via System Restore then re-installed.
Same thing … no tray icon.

Try a repair.

Go to ‘control panel’ / add remove programs
click on avast then ‘change or remove’
next window, scroll down to repair.

Thanks, I’ll try that now.

Repair did not fix it.
I uninstalled (again) am rebooting and I’ll try reinstalling.

I just installed it on my other XP machine and all is fine.

Maybe a glitch with Windows 7?

No good.

I’ll try an older version.

Solved.

Apparently the icon winds up in the hidden icons folder and must be manually set for the tray.
This doesn’t happen with XP … not sure about Vista.
