Started using this version recently. No problems so far and looks very nice.
A quick question please.
When I run the Full System Scan [second tab in scan now] I get a log file at the end which has entries all saying ‘File was skipped because of scanner settings’.
I could not count the entries because there were so many but the log.txt file is 34.2mb just to give you an idea.
I searched for this issue and it appears that for now the solution is to create a Custom Scan with Scan all files ticked which then scans the entire system.
I did test both ways ie Full System Scan and with a Custom Scan (scan all files ticked) and whereas the Full Scan detects only 155,000 files, the Custom Scan shows some 330,000 files (which is a more accurate figure).
Is my research and understanding of this issue correct or have I got it wrong.
avast! skips threat-free files (text files, etc.) to increase scanning speed.
You don’t have to worry about skipping, because avast knows that skipped files cannot affect your computer.
To further the above reply/info, if you open the interface, and select “scan”, at the bottom of each scan area pane (quick, full, boot, and custom) is a settings button. (Some settings can not be modified in the free version).
Under “packers” , you will see and example of the types of files that will not be examined.
Such packed files are inert until unpacked and run.
At that point, if malware was detected, the file system resident shield would catch it.
