depends if you use Windows live mail for hotmail accounts in DeltaSync (default setup), or POP, or anything else using POP/IMAP + SMTP (supported by Avast mail shield).

If your Hotmail account is webmail (can be viewed through your browser) then windows live mail is using DeltsSync to import the email. This is a Microsoft proprietary protocol that avast can’t scan.

If this is a POP3 Hotmail account then there is something else in the mix ?

No, it isn’t necessary to change anything, as I said DeltaSync is a Microsoft proprietary protocol that can only be used by Microsoft email products, so avast can’t physically scan it.

So nothing that you do can change that.
