I tried installing it twice on my Vista machine but Windows Data Execution Prevention keeps shutting Avast 5 down. I tried having DEP ignore all the Avast executables that were allowed, no go. Anyone have a work around?
system restore then re install
What exactly did the message say? What process was shut down?
DEP reported AvastSvc.exe was stopped. You can’t run that process without DEP. It happens faster when I try to access my inbox.com web mail which uses SSL but I can’t change that setting. It also happens when I am not accessing my mail and when the mail protection is turned off. I’m going to try the Avast uninstaller program and start from scratch. I will post here whether that works or not. I already tried the system restore.
I didn’t work. AvastSvc.exe keeps getting shut down by DEP even when I am not accessing webmail through Thunderbird or browser. Gonna play with msconfig and see if something is affecting it.
After using msconfig and multiple reboots I found the problem. Speedbit Video Accelerator was the startup program causing problems. I installed that because of problems with YouTube. I seem to be able to view videos with no problem without Speedbit starting up automatically. Hey, Alwill, how about a free lifetime subscription to the pro version for my efforts?
