Avast 5 Boot time scan result report is missing

Hello,

I’ve done a few boot time scans on my PC but I can never seem to retrieve the report once its done. I would like to of course because the scan showed some problem files and folders.

The scan says the report is located at the following:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\report\aswBoot.txt

The problem with this is that I have no “report” folder under the Avast5 directory.

My only folders unders Avast5 are:

1033
defs
flash
License
Setup
WebRep

I assume WebRep stands for web report but I can’t access anything meaningful.

Under the WebRep folder are 2 more folders:

Chrome
FF (I assume FireFox)

…and a few subfolders under each of those but nothing that would lead me to think there are reports in there somewhere.

Any idea where or how I can access boot time scan results reports?

I tried to manually create a “report” folder under Avast5 but I got access denied.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First avast6 has been out for some considerable time, so you should update to that.

It would probably be best to do a clean install as that would then change the folder names so they are non version specific.

It isn’t in that location but in either the documents and settings or ProgramData, depending on your OS, which I suspect given as you are still using avast5 is XP. If so it is in this location, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ALWIL Software\Avast5\aswBoot.txt. Or if Vista C:\ProgramData\ALWIL Software\Avast5\aswBoot.txt.

The avast self-defence module obviously won’t let you create anything in the in the avast folders.

Thank you SO much. I found it under:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\report

I am still using XP, yes.

I always make sure my software is up to date but I don’t recall it asking me to upgrade to 6.0. I do automatic updates as well as manual updates before I scan each week. I update the program and virus definitions. Odd.

You’re welcome.

I would suggest a clean of avast 6.0.1289 as that will change the old Alwil Software name (now Avast Software) and also change the avast5 folder to the non version specific avast folder.

This assumes you are using avast free and not avast Pro or AIS:

  • Download the latest version of avast, 6.0.1289 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 5.x and 6.0.x).

    1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 5.x if previously installed and then for 6.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

I will take care of that in the morning. Thanks again!

@DavidR,

The OP might be already using Avast 6. If the user was using Avast 5 and updated some time to Avast 6 over it (as oppose to a clean reinstall), Avast 6 would still be using the old path of Avast 5, and it should work correctly anyway.

Did you read the topic title ???

We have to take their word for something. Considering that the OP didn’t respond in the negative (twice) about having avast5 when it was suggested that they update to avast6, so I have to believe the OP.

OK, I wasn’t clear enough. My apologies. I indeed read the topic title, but I know that many users don’t even know which actual version they are using. I attributed the “Avast 5” of the title to the path the OP presented, rather than to the specific version of Avast.

It has been stated again and again that most users with default settings will already be updated to the latest program version. I myself still use the same path as Avast 5, while I am using the latest Avast 6, and it works correctly.

Now, my comment was directed to open the possibility of such situation, which I thought about immediately, since I have that same situation (path of Avast 5.x, using version 6.x after updating over it). The OP mentioned the path and not the version. In addition, the comment was not only intended to this topic only, but more as a general observation.

Finally, my intention was / is for the OP to double check the actual version of Avast in use. It would be a waste of time to clean up the system and reinstall Avast just for simple path “issue”, that in most cases and most of the time is not important at all. If there is some problem with Avast, then the conclusion could be potentially different.

I hope my intention was clearer now. Thanks.
