Hey all,
Im new to avast and recently downloaded and installed avast! free antivirus 5.0. I would like to run a boot-time scan but just cant figure out how to do it. checked the web for tutorials with no results. any advice is mostly appreciated
Hi jbalgrim, welcome to the forum 
To schedule a boot time scan in avast! 5, follow these instructions:
Open avast! GUI → Click ‘Scan Computer’ → Click ‘Boot time scan’ just underneath that when it appears.
From there you can schedule it and adjust the settings etc.

You can set avast to do a boot time scan from the GUI.
But only if you’re running a 32bit system, on 64bit it will be available in v5.1

What is your OS ?
If a 64bit version of windows it isn’t available, otherwise, see this image.
