there is clearly a problem here as disabling tls on eudora has no effect
it worked fine with 4.8
causes the following error in eudora
Cannot establish SSL, SSL_connenct error 336031996

This should be a mere settings problem.
Besides disabling ssl/tls, make sure that in eudora the standard ports are set.
They are…remember it worked fine with avast 4.8
look at all the email problems reported here along these lines…theres your cue that theres a problem here.
Yes, I currently have Avast 4.8 with Eudora 7 and it runs fine. They better fix it or all the computers at work will not be renewed. We are a Eudora shop at work.
My wife’s computer (Dell Optiplex GX270 w/Windows XP) has Avast 5.0.4.18 - a few weeks ago we had problems and disable the mail shield in Avast and then it ran fine for awhile. Now, the Eudora 7.1.0.9 on her computer starts up with a red frame around it and all the files behave as if they are read only - although their attributes are fine. We have lots of email and have no intentions of changing programs. Currently, she temporarily use the PIA - Outlook Express - it just soils us that we have to even use that crappy program.
No problems with ports, we even reinstalled it once. I really liked the old program (4.8) better.
Please, don’t turn Avast in something like “N-rt-n -nt-v-r-s” that makes the computer into an unusable fortress and runs like molasses in January.

We’re having the same issue with Eudora 7.1 paid and Avast 5
When first using it there was a mention of Avast not able to scan SSL pop connections
We’re not using an SSL connection so it shouldn’t matter…right?
I just upgraded to Avast 5 and all was working with 4.8
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Got it…
Go To
Mail Shield>Expert Setting>SSL Accounts>
Delete all false detected SSL accounts
I just dumped them all seeing as I’m not accessing pop3 using SSL
Uncheck the “automatically detect and warn about unprotected SSL connections” check box
All should work from there
Well that’s not exactly a fix
Even if I unchecked the “automatically detect and warn about unprotected SSL connections” Avast still adds to the SSL list
If you clear the list you can check your mail once but when the domains are added to the list you are prevented from checking
Still trying to figure out a work around
Why don’t you set the accounts to the original ports / no ssl settings inside mailshield? that should work, shouldn’t it?
We use Eudora 7.1.0.9 paid mode and Avast 5.0.462 Pro at work with no problems.
Good Morning:
We can clear the SSL settings and Eudora works once
After the mail is checked, the settings return in Avast and break it again
