Avast 5 BSOD for the last time

Well I thought I have it figured out for now but I guess not. Had auto updates turned off and haven`t had a BSOD in 4 or 5 days. Well tonight after my usual manual update....actually a few min. after...which was not the norm.....Blue Screened.....Avast not running.....will not start....tried to fix....will not start.....I`m done !! moving on now....... I have used Avast for years....always raved about it to everyone....but this Avast 5....nope I`m over it moving on.....maybe I`ll check back sometime and see if it is really out of Bata.........Peter

I hear ya.
That’s why I went back to 4.8…it just WORKS! ;D
I’ll wait for the STABLE version of 5 but 4.8 is working flawlessly (who cares that it’s not as “pretty”).

Yep.......I`ll check back in a month or two and see if they have it figured out yet. If I was testing 5 as a beta program I would disappointed and say their is a lot to fix.......but this is supposed to be out of beta ::)

I don’t know if that is the issue here, but I agree with you that running away doesn’t solve the problem :-\ Uploading crash dumps can help the Awil Boys

Greetz, Red.

hi… im in the same frame of mind as Pal10…

Used avast for a good few years now… even bought the pro edition. L
I’ve installed it on all my computers… even the kids… and my parents…
tell all my friends to drop norton and use avast…
last week i got the pop-up my licence was elapsing soon
so i thought hey why not upgrade to AIS 5.0…
purchased a 3 user licence, and have had nothing but trouble since…
al Pc’s running win 7.
I’ve already removed it from the laptop and re-installed acast 4.8 along with windows7firewall.

will be doing the same with the others later this week… :frowning:

Looks like i wasted my money this time…

Not just walking away…I have sent them my mini dumps…(they replied looks like hw problem)…but it brakes avast everytime …happens during or just after updates… avast has to be removed and installed again before it will work again. It never happened before Avast 5 installed, doesnt happen now that it is removed.....that is a Avast 5 problem no matter what they say. I installed and re-installed 4 times.....thats enough for me and I wouldnt call it just walking away. I tried to figure a way to hoble along till they get this fixed....not possible.......so Im over it. I Dont Like My New Machine Blue Screening all the time ! YOKenny I know all about the problem with MalwareBytes.......It is not on my machine.........their are a lot more problems with this new program then just the MalwareBytes program they are talking about. Their were lots of us running Windows 7 64 bit Blue Screening at bootup updates. If you both were paying attention you would have seen nothing changed for us and most sent in mini dumps and finally went back to 4.8 or moved on. I wouldnt call this walking away. I have messed with Beta tasting lots of programs…I find virus soft wear very important ( that is why I always used Avast…it was the best )I would never beta test virus softwear on my main computer. I do not like Beta testing without my consent…that is what we are doing and what you are asking me to do now. This program should not have been released yet and that is the fact. As a Beta test yes…but I would not have done that on this computer and I would have been much more patient…but as it stands I am over it…see ya !!

tba…what I think you will find here as I have… is they seem to admit they have some problems with MalwareBytes. But because it is working on some peoples Win 7 machines it must be ok on Win 7 machines is the drift I`m getting. Must be a problem with our machines is the drift I am getting. Even though I know of as you many people running win 7 have moved back to 4.8 or moved on because of all the BSOD. Yet they have not even acknowledged we have a problem. Like I said I will check back and see if anything has changed…Peter

Good luck. Sorry that Avast 5 gave you issues.

Hope the Avast team can look deeper into the problem for you in some way. If you are still unsatisfied with 5 it may be some time as not all problems are easily traced without more info from each user.

If anyone of the people leaving avast 5, have read the statement that all avast sales are money back guaranteed, why are you complaining about? there is nothing perfect, and avast is not the exception. And maybe this 5 version is not as stable as 4.8 but for many other users it is, so that’s why this is an official release. And sorry about the problems you have with avast 5. Just downgrade to 4.8, and stop complaining, the avast team is working hard to fix all the issues out there for v5.

Cazoza you are not helping any here…I guess I am complaining…but what I really feel is disappointment. Their are a lot more people having problems then the few you make it appear as. I am disappointed that a company as good as Alwil would put out a product as buggy as 5. I also dont like being told it is a hw problem when you , I and everyone else knows it is an Avast 5 problem. If I was up for Beta testing right now I would be all into helping.......but I dont have the time right now and all this stuff is getting me behind as it is. I am not trying to burn any bridges here because I`m sure in time I will be back as many others will be because if they ever get the bugs out it will probably be the best thing out there again. I guess that is part of the problem of making such good produts… you are held to the level your past product was. If earlier products from Avast were as buggy and presented the way as 5 their following would never be what it is. So Complaining Cazoza…Yes I guess I am…but more from disappointment…Peter

I was helping in the Beta and when avast! V5 became generally available January 19th with the Program version 5.0.396 a short while ago I continued to help diagnose and solve the problem on my XP Pro system.

Why not be part of the solution and not be part of the problem by complaining that AWIL are not fixing your problem as fast as you want ???

If you are disapointed with avast! V5 and not willing to help then feel free to move on to a different anti virus application.

There are over 100 million satisfied users of avast! and the users that have chosen to take advantage of V5 are many and are not having a problem and like cazoza said they are working hard to fix the issues with V5 for the few users that are having a problem.

I will continue to use avast! as it is one of the best Free anti virus applications available.

Well YoKenny in a way I guess you are right…another time and another machine…I would have been glad to help out in Beta testing Avast 5. But I guess I was in the wrong place at the wrong time…Just as 5 was coming out I finished updating this machine for photo editing I had to get done and am actually behind right now on. I have always used Avast and have raved about how great it was and how good of a company they seemed to be. So of course when I went to download virus program I went to Avast as usual. When I saw Avast 5 as the download…I just said wow…cool a new Avast. Didnt think anything of it....didnt even dream it was still full of bugs. Then out of no where BSOD…un-install…re-install…update…boom BSOD…send in mini bump…un-install…re-install…BSO…thought I had figured out a way to hobble till it was fixed…worked for a while then update boom BSOD. Sorry I dont know what you do in your life but for me right now I dont have time for this…I am just to busy. If I would have gone to get virus software a couple of days earlier I would have had 4.8…which is running now beautifully…Then when 5 came up a few days later I would have done some research because I cant afford down time right now...and would have found all the problems ....then would have decided to wait a while because......As I said I dont have the time for this right now. My blind trust in Avast was stupid and that is probably what made me mad. But I learn and this will never happen again. So you are right YoKenny I should have kept 5 on this machine and helped them figure this out ( although when I sent in my mini bump they didnt seem very interested)....but it is just the wrong time. Will I use Avast in the future....Yes Of course Im not stupid…I am using it right now…4.8. Do I think it should have been released when it was…NO it was not ready. So as I said earlier…I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Have I lost some confidence in Avast ? Yes of course…but they probably are the best virus softwear out there…free or pay. Have I learned anything ?.. Yes I think…never trust anything new no matter who it is from. Has Avast learned anything ?..I hope …Peter
