avast 5 bug with outlook

I’ve installed Avast 5 yesterday

the scan of mails worked once after installation of Avast, yesterday, but, today, no more scan of mails

another bug : if I check scan of archive mails, Outlook 2000 crashes.

thanks for help

Could it be that Outlook 2000 is too old a version? I’m using 2003

Well as far as I’m aware, Outlook 2000 is a supported version in avast 5.0.

I think more important would also be what OS are you using, if it is of the same era as the email client, e.g. are you using windows 2000 ?

DavidR,

I’m using XP with all SP

OK, as win2k requires an additional rollup 1 update to be compatible with avast5, so no problem in that regard.

Check the Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager and ensure that the avast plug-in is installed and not disabled.

Re “another bug : if I check scan of archive mails, Outlook 2000 crashes.”
I wouldn’t advise scanning scanning the .pst files not because you are experiencing a crash (why I don’t know). If avast finds any infected email in there, trying to remove it could result in the corruption of the .pst file and the inability to access the remainder of the emails in that .pst file.

I verified : the avast plug-in is installed and not disabled. I see the avast plug/in screen

If I check “insert note in safe mail”, it works, the mails have this note. Thus, the mails are scanned. But, the mail agent activity screen shows no scanned mails !!!

I’m at a bit of a loss not being an MS Outlook user so I can’t test anything as to why everything appears to be working but not showing the activity.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Thanks DavidR

I did a repair of Avast yesterday.

No change ! :frowning:

Sorry no other ideas, hopefully some with Outlook can pick-up on this topic.

Does the avast icon rotate when emails are being sent or received ?

I had a problem where I would click recieve in my Outlook, and the progress bar would stick about half way across and not load the e-mail. Long story short, I was using NOD32 AV at the time and swore the problem was in the mail scan. It turned out to be the firewall.
