Avast 5 Conflict with Sandboxie

I installed Avast 5 last week and have had nothing but trouble since. This has manifested itself in frequent system freezes which required hard power down and restart. Also a restart was very slow taking up to 5 minutes to complete.

Eventually this was tracked down to a conflict with Sandboxie. After uninstalling Sandboxie the restart was still slow but now improved to about 3 minutes. After uninstalling Avast 5 everything returned to normal. Reinstalling Sandboxie had no effect on start up times.

I then installed Avast 4.8 and things are now back to normal.

It would seem that there are some serious issues with Avast 5 which need to be resolved before this can be considered a stable programme.

Running XP Pro, SP 3, Comodo, Malwarebytes on an AMD based processor with 2 Gb of RAM.

Would apprecate some advice.

Im having no problems with avast and sandboxie on sp sp3. both are playing nicely with each other and no slow start ups or slow downs

Xp home sp3, zonealarm, intel with 1gb ram

Is MBAM the paid version and if so try disabling the resident protection.

If this is the comodo CIS version ensure that you don’t have the AV module installed.

Thanks for the responses. CIS is running without the AV module installed.

MBAM is the paid version. Why should I inhibit resident protection when that is what I paid for?

Avast 4.8 is running happily with Sandboxie and so it shall remain until Avast 5 is upgraded.

Then don’t disable it that is a suggestion not an order, your system, your choice, all I know is that this has resolved the problem for some. Me given the choice of avast 5 and no MBAM resident or 4.8 and MBAM resident, I’m afraid it would be avast5 and MBAM on-demand only every time as that I feel is a better level ov overall protection…

I have Avast 5.0.396 installed along with Sandboxie. I experienced problems at first but deleted Sandboxie and did a reinstall. No more problems!

No problems with avast! 5 and Sandboxie on WinXP SP3 here.

Avast 5 and Sandboxie works 100% with no issues. = TESTED

Avast 4.8 is fully compatible with MBAM paid running Protection Module and Ip Protection. = TESTED

The early v5.0377 if not mistaken the version has issues with MBAM. TESTED

I think its the MBAM or Comodo causing conflict but im not sure the 5.0396 fix this issue.

Maybe its comodo hips and malwarebytes real time that is interfert ? Im not sure.

Have carried the following experiments:

  1. Re-installed Avast 5 and updated. Nearly 10 minutes to boot up.

  2. Shutdown Malwarebytes resident protection. No difference.

  3. Uninstalled Malwarebytes and Comodo. No difference.

  4. Uninstalled Avast 5 and installed Avast 4.8. Boot up takes less than 1 minute.

  5. Re-installed Malwarebytes and Comodo.

Everything OK. Will try and remove other programmes to eliminate when I have time and will keep you informed. Thanks for all the help.

My problem now seems to be resolved although the cause is not apparent.

I did a reformat and re-install of XP, updated all patches from MS. Then installed Avast 5 and all my other programmes. Things seem to be running without conflict. Early days so will monitor reularly.

Thanks for all the help.
