Avast 5 detected a virus in the memory.

The Avast 5 detected a virus in the memory and asked to do a boot scan before windows ever been booted up. Upon restart, Avast 5’s boot scan started and found a virus in the file system, however whenever I press 1 for deletion, the screen froze and didn’t carry out its action, so therefore, results me to do a hard reset. So, what should I do? Thanks.

Did you have the option in the boot time scan to send the file to the virus chest? and carry on the boot time scan. Download & try a run with malwarebytes antispyware free (MBAM) to ensure that you are free from any spyware?

yes, that’s number 3 in the option but it won’t perform the action cuz it frozen and didn’t do anything.

What is your OS and keyboard connection method ?

If XP and USB then you have a bit of a problem because by all accounts XP can’t detect/use a USB keyboard during a boot-time scan. So if the above is true then if you have an old PS2 keyboard it would be worth trying, it would obviously have to be connected before the boot (you can’t hot swap keyboards.

I don’t particularly like USB keyboards always found them troublesome even in windows, so for me I’m using a really cheap Benq keyboard (cost more in postage of ebay than the 99p price), the thing is it is a nice keyboard.

Is this a version 5 bug? Do you think the next build will fix this? Is the alternative just to say no to the prompt and than just run a Full Scan after bootup? Sounds like a fix needed for the next build. I have not yet done any boot time scans with version 5.

Isn’t Move to Chest the default setting for a Boot Time Scan?

Windows XP Media Center and I have a dell USB keyboard.
