I have used Avast 4 for about 2 years with no problems.
had to fromat and reload vista yesterday.Installed Avast 5.
I have 2 email accounts with 2 different providers set up
in Windows mail.
1 account works fine can send and receive, but the second account
I get the following error and have to turn of mail shield to get my
messages…
Account: ‘mail.virginbroadband.com.au’, Server: ‘mail.virginbroadband.com.au’, Protocol: POP3, Server Response: ‘-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 123.200.191.12 (123.200.191.12:995), connect error 10061’, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90
Using windows mail on vista home premium.Should I ditch 5 and go back to Avast 4???
If you check the error message, it shows SSL = No “Secure(SSL): No”
However, there does seem to be some sort of anomaly in the connection attempt.
It looks like the email shield is trying to connect to port 995 which is a secure pop3 port.
‘-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 123.200.191.12 (123.200.191.12:995), connect error 10061’
Resulting in a connection error on port 110, e.g. trying to connect securely on port 110 (when it is expecting a different protocol). How to get round that one is beyond me at this moment in time as an avast 5.0 virgin (no pun intended).
How do these two accounts differ, e.g. are they for the same domain, etc. ?
avast doesn’t have a clue if your using adsl or wireless it should treat all the same.
So we need to know how these two account settings differ and crucially are they for the same domain (virginbroadband.au and other ?? domainname.au, etc. ??) as I asked ?
If they are for different domains one might use SSL and the other not and that would also mean the settings would be different.
Sorry. The one that works okay is optusnet.com.au
The one that doesnt is virginbroadband.com.au.I have been thru tech support with virgin
but still not resolved.
Went thru every box with both accounts and they are identical setup.
Virgin here is owned by optus and use the same network.
If I get time today I might just start ticking and unticking boxes
and see what happens.
Thanx all for your assistance.
Thanx Lot of reading.Tested out some stuff, nothing
Went thru every box ticking and unticking sending and receiving.
I think best option I will leave email scanner off.
Common sense will stop any nasties getting in and Avast works fine for web surfing which
is the main purpose for me.
