Avast 5 free problem with web protection module

Hello everyone, I have a problem with the web protection of avast free v5.0.677. When enabled, do not open web pages with IE8, but when I disable the Web protection, instead Internet browsing functions normally.
But with previous versions of avast it worked fine without any problems. There is someone who can help me?

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

The web shield should essentially function the same as earlier versions, what has changed is the process that controls it.

Hi my firewall is the default one of windows 7, I added exceptions for avastSvc.exe but still does not work, does not allow Internet Explorer to view web pages, I have to disable avast web protection to be able to navigate on internet.

Unless you changed the win7 firewall default settings, then outbound protection is disabled, so shouldn’t have got in the way. If you did enable it and had previously added avastSvc.exe, then delete the entry as mentioned above.

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

What other security software do you have installed ?
Did this ever work with avast 5.0 ?

Does it work with any other browser ?

If you installed avast 5.0 over 4.8 it might be worth trying a clean reinstall:

  • Download the latest version of avast, 5.0.677 http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here, scroll down and select your language version and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0).

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Ok good news the problem is solved, I did as you suggested, I uninstalled and then I clean in safe mode with avast uninstall utility, and after I reinstalled avast free 5 and now it works does not block most web browsing
