Avast 5 : from a new user

Hello All,

I joined this forum yesterday and it’s my first post.

I am using Avast for some years (but, I am a new user to this forum ;)).

1 year back, my hardware professional friend advised to purchase NAV. I purchased it but I have to uninstalled it for many reasons … especially it was causing problem with the open source software development tool I was learning. Then again I installed Avast. This year I installed Win 7 to my laptop and installed MSE. It’s an excellent software but have problems like infamous Windows validation error. :frowning:

Then again I installed Avast. This is the only anti virus software which didn’t give me any problem  Thanks to Alwil for this excellent software

Only one thing I want to know - does it have any problem with Thunderbird? Sometimes I cannot send mail or save mail using Thunderbird.

With best regards.

Sudip

Welcome to the forums.

avast should work fine with Thunderbird and it should be consistent, e.g. it should either work all the time or not at all (indicating there is a setting mismatch that needs to be resolved). This mismatch would tend to be if you are using SSL/TLS email settings in thunderbird and avast can’t scan email unless you uncheck that option in the email accounts, avast would then handle the SSL/TLS (secure) connection. This wouldn’t happen intermittently but always until resolved.

So when it sometimes doesn’t work may well be outside influences.

When this happens, record the error messages that are reported and ask in the forums to see if we can identify why and if it is avast related or not.
