Avast 5 home edition slowing down Flash/mkv videos?

Hi all I think I may have encountered a problem with Avast 5.

Basically since I installed the new Avast everytime I go onto youtube or even just watch a video file from my desktop it stutters and slows down with the audio going all funny like something out of benny hill.

I’m pretty sure it is Avast interfering with something because I turned the shields of and restarted youtube and everything went back to normal on the videos. Even after I started Avast back up it stayed normal which is kind of weird.

Now I did change some settings in the main menu to scan all files/PUP and so on so maybe something is slowing it down from there?

Anyone with a clue what’s going on please help me figure this one out.

Thaanks.

Hi.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I ended up adding YouTube.com to the URL exclusions. Everything’s okay now. I wonder if there’s some kind of conflict with Avast’s new Web Shield and Adobe Flash Player latest version? Just an idea I had. Aggrevating isn’t it. :-\

Mine sounds like a reptilian :-\

If I knew exactly what that “smart stream” function was, I would mess with it but I’m in the same boat as you. 4.8 had straight forward and understandable controls and unfortunately this new version does not. Kind of reminds me of a couple others like Norton and so on which is why I never actually purchased them. This audio/video flash problem seems to be the only one that I have on my xp machine although the installer didn’t want to cooperate at first. but then again and as I stated, these controls come pre-checked and I have no idea why so maybe something is told to run by default that is causing the problem. The only relevant response that I have read from what appear to be the experienced posters is that if we choose to download it then it’s our fault. Kind of reminds me of writing Congress. It would be easier to work with if one could understand the various controls. lots of bloat that lead to the end of a circle, really. Shae32’s suggestion is a workaround for it at this point but then again, should it have to be that way?

Well in the nicest possible way I’m glad it’s not just my machine that’s having some sort of issue with this. I really hope Avast isn’t going down the Norton route of interfering with certain programmes.

I’m using XP pro by the way. Always seems to be XP pro that has issues with programmes.

Anyway I’m a bit suspicious about adding youtube to the exclusions because I don’t fully trust everything on that site is safe (certainly not Redtube!)

I had a slower video stream (and blue screens) until after I disabled Behavior Shield.

Yes but if a system file changes, I want to know about it. Assuming that the feature actually works in the first place. From reading some of the posts I’m not sure if it does.

Doing it with me also causing sound to break up while watching videos on You tube that needs flash to run.
I am fed up with avast 5 now and will be going back to avast 4.8!

I think our video and sound issues are simply casualties of the bigger issue with the new version of Avast!.
