Greetings, I’ve just spent a couple of hours trying to upgrade my old Avast to newer version, and I must admit that I’m really frustrated about this.
Every time i try to install new Avast I get an error “There was an error while completing the setup process”. I saw this topic (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=40286.0), but nothing helped. I have downloaded Avast uninstall utility and it didn’t helped.
I don’t want to switch to another antivirus but I will have to since my computer is unprotected because of this. I am not first user who’s experiencing this problem and I’m experienced computer technician so I doubt there is problem with my computer. Please tell me how to solve this problem.
What is “didn’t helped”? Which are the error messages?
Any other security program that could interfere?
Did you try the installation from scratch on post #1 there?
Thanks for your answer.
“Didn’t help” means that I still have the same problem. I tried your scratch but the problem persisted. I get the same message. Attached you will find the report I saved.
Ad you can see there is a problem with the package but that same Installation was used many times before. Apart from that, I have downloaded the latest setup package for a couple of times. Still no positive result.
I use Windows XP SP3 with all new updates, and there are no any other antivirus programs installed. None of them was installed in the meantime also.
I had older version of Avast (4… something) and I wanted to switch to version 5.
Are you sure that your computer is free from spyware?.
Try a del partition and re install windows to ensure that you haven,t got a rootkit in boot sector virus, and do a fresh install of xp! best way if you have not any important data to lose.
