Avast 5 IS cannot update

Greetings,

I have had avast 5 IS up and running for months. Either yesterday or the day before, it kicked up an error window saying that it was unable to update.

I go into the update section of the GUI and tell it to update and it starts to do so, and then after about a couple of seconds, it says that it cannot update,

This is what it says:

Last encountered error: The package is broken. Engine and definitions: Already up to date (current version 100803-1) Program: Already up to date (current version 5.0.594) Total time: 4s

If everything is up to date, why does it tell me that there was an error and that it was unable to update? And why when I try to manually update it, it tells me that the package is broken, instead of saying that it is up to date?

Before you ask, I have gone into proxy settings, and tried both turning on “always connected to the internet” as well as “Direct connection” and “Auto Detect”. Does not make a difference.

Cheers

Restart your machine.
Solved…?
If this doesn’t help try to repair avast:
Control panel > Add/remove programs > click once on avast to select it > click on Change/Remove > scroll down the left pane and click on repair > click OK> follow directions
Solved…?
asyn

No. Not solved. As I said, it has been doing this for days. Machine has been restarted over half a dozen times. Same thing every time.

Also, tried to do repair in control panel. It said Error processing packages. Please use full update.

Have you changed any of the default settings?
