I have been Beta testing avast 5 free and IS since it came out (win7/32) and experiencing little or no problems, lucky me… ;D
So today i did my first install on XP, and first time with a license key…and with all the problems we read about, what would happen to me ???
And this is how i did it on my Lenovo S10-2 XP netbook
Downloaded avast 5 IS exe and saved it in my documents
Open the mail from avast and saved the attachment “License.avastclick” to my documents
Uninstalled Outpost free
Uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2010 and restart
Run Norton removal tool (SymNRT) and restart
Run CCleaner/registry
Installed avast 5 IS in trail mode, waited untill program had updated VPS and restarted
Opened my documents, the “license.avastclick” now have a orange avast icon on it and i double click it
An avast popup ask “do you want to insert file” i click yes…bing every thing is working
the only thing i see is that on every restart there is a popup from the firewall, telling me what network i am on (detected home network)
You are not so lucky as you think m8, because you are not finished for today ;D One of the Dev’s told us that a new BETA update will be released tonight
good enough for others to follow Pondus. all credit to you. I will bookmark yr post to show others how it can be done, regardless of beta updates to come, which anyway is all part of same story anyway.
Keep us posted of any new developments that might arise please. I’m thinking of buy IS for a 3 PC home/office wired network once I have seen out my wireless contract with Vodafone (few months to go yet).
Also just loaded - INTRODUCING: New pre-release build of avast [5.0.415]
looks like install went well. This computer - uninstalled previous av_free, used aswclear5 to fully uninstall, and then loaded 5.0.415.
Next computer I will try load new build over the previous release.
@ YoKenny - yes, sorry got IS Beta mixed up when Pondus said trial mode of avast 5 IS - was early morning here, but did think I corrected my error immediately.
