Avast 5 Is Not Working With Outlook 2000

Hello,

My problems started with the upgrade from avast 4. After upgrading, i got the bug stating avast4 .dll file not found whenever i started outlook. I uninstalled avast 5, rebooted, used the avast removal software, rebooted, and installed avast 5

Was still getting that error on boot up for outlook. I found a post that said to go into outlook add ins and see what was there. Lo and behold, avast 4 was still listed and checked. So, i unchecked avast 4. No more errors on entering Outlook 2000. However, the avast splash screen was no longer coming up when i started Outlook. This, coupled with no avast 5 add in listed in outlook, leads me to believe that avast 5 is not scanning my email.

I tried the unistall, reboot, avast removal software, reboot and re-install of avast 5 again with no change in the above.

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to fix this issue?

Thanks

Try finding that topic/post again as I believe there is another file that needs to be deleted (have to disable avast self-defence, avast Settings, Troubleshooting).

Whilst this file in in place avast5 thinks everything is fine as far as the Outlook plug-in goes, when removed and rebooted avast5 should install the plug-in.

Sorry I can’t be more practical help as I don’t use Outlook.

OK, been digging around and found that the Extend.dat file of Outlook, etc. can get messed up, see this topic to see how this problem was resolved, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=56625.0.
