any one got any ideas to stop avast killing firefox? youtube and flash videos was skipping like hell (like if i was burning a cd and trying to listen) and my cpu was going up to 50/60 just on firefox.
at first thought it was because i updated to 3.6 today, after testing and going in safe mode. i disabled all avast sehilds for ten minutes.
firefox is working fine. (same happened in IE also so know its avast)
would would be the effect by disabling webshield perminant?
nope, no ideas …there’s something wrong going on on your system…or avast 5 wasn’t properly installed: did you upgrade from V4? if yes, try to uninstall everything with this: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility, reboot and reinstall V5 from scratch. Post back here to tell how it went …oh, what’s your operating system?
Hey, thanks for the reply. well it looks like it was avast. in webshield i went to expert settings. then exclusions. added youtube etc and every thing works fine again. firefox and IE.
i also deselected scan all file types in websheild and added my own list of dangerous extentions to scan.
firefox and IE no longer spiking, running smooth.
also randomly a friend on msn just mentioned to me his pc was doin the same in ff and ie, and i had actually got him to install avast yesterday. his is working fine now also.

I have exactly same problem. I just think that it’s getting worst with time. When I restart, then everything is working fine, but after while (2 - 3 hours) of surfing it start to do problems with flash videos (youtube etc) and also I can’t listen music and download at the same time… ???
I already reinstall Avast 5 but the problem is still there…
Good luck getting an answer. I had the exact same problem and posted it in the beta forum around a week ago and got no help. I had to switch AV’s till this is resolved, and I assume many will as well.
