I really liked the log viewer in Avast 4 - It was nice to be able to check when Avast last updated its virus database. This feature seems to have vanished in Avast 5 - Has this feature gone somewhere obscure or is there no log of update history I can check anymore?
It isn’t there as each scanner has its own dedicated log file. The C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\report folder is where they are located (XP OS).
I found those. But there is no log, as there used to be, of date and time updates happened. Something I found very comforting on occasion. How are you supposed to know whether Avast is up to date or not and how up to date it is?
In the GUI, under Maintenance/Update shows last update attempt. Also if it fails to stay updated it should show under Summary/Current Status, the virus definitions will show red.
Well the setup.log in the Log folder this is in chronological order most recent at the bottom of the file. If an update fails I believe it should say in the UI, and you should have got a red pop-up that it failed. An easy way to confirm you are up to date is a manual update check from the Maintenance, Updates section of the UI.
