That was the first thing I did. Sorry, being a computer shop owner, I should have posted some of my troubleshooting in the original thread. Long day.
I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled both Thunderbird and Avast multiple times. Once with Avast first, once with Thunderbird first (thank goodness I know where my profile folder is so I didn’t lose any mail/contacts!) and it still did the same thing.
I am an Avast reseller, and since I install Avast on new computers I build, having the knowledge beforehand (since it’s happening to my computer) will be handy in the field.
Also, I’m on Win 7 Ultimate and Avast/Thunderbird are both running as an Administrator.
And the same messages appeared in the mail.log after you reinstalled ?
If so, check file version of C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\aswRdr.sys. If it is 4.8, uninstall avast5 and use the aswClear (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) to get rid of the old files.
sry it isn’t my thread but I’ve got the same Problem… (but with Thunderbird 3)
I saw that the mail Service wasn’t running before and the “fix” button doesn’t worked too.
But uninstalling and after that using the aswClear worked, thanks
And yes… all my drivers of avast! stucked at the old version 4.8 so i think the update progress isn’t working perfectly. Maybe it was my fault because i started the avast! 5 setup but canceled it because it wanted to know the install path so it doesn’t know the old one of avast! 4 and i believed it is better to cancel the setup before any action is taken and uninstall avast! 4 first… but then i saw that avast! 4 got deleted already. I wondered why the setup asked to restart before anything happened… so i don’t restarted.
Maybe that was the problem at all.
Kind regards

P.S.
i hope you understand what i mean, because i know that my English isn’t perfect at all
