Avast 5 Mail Sheild Off

Hello: I just installed this new version on Vista. I cannot get the Mail Shield to turn ON no matter what button I press. I have Windows Mail client.
I do have SSL and set them up in the appropriate area and still NO GO.
Could someone assist me please?

I had this problem when I was using the beta but uninstalling it and reinstalling seemed to fix it for me.
