Avast 5 makes vista boot over and over again

Being an enthusiastic Avast user for many years, I’m sorry to report that avast 5 makes my win vista sp2 boot over and over again. First I installed it on top of 4.8. After that, the only way for an succesfull boot was using safe mode. In safe mode, I blanked out the new boot scans (rootkit, raw disk acces and another ) one, but that didn’t change anything. Then I uninstalled Avast to make a clean install, but that didn’t solve the problem either.
I had no other antivirus running (now I do, because I don’t want to be unprotected, but only after I uninstalled avast 5 for the last time, but I’eally like to use avast again).

Did you try a custom install with the Behavior Shield omitted? That component
has been a cause of many reported BSODs and reboots in the past.

Not yet. As you say it gave already much problems, it should have been solved with version 5 going out of beta, shouldn’t it.

… it should have been solved with version 5 going out of beta, shouldn’t it.

It has been solved for many of us, but unfortunately it appears there are still
some system configurations which are problematic. If you can get a minidump from
one of these events and submit it to Alwil it may expedite resolution.

Just tell me how to make a minidump… Would be glad to help.

During the crash (reboot), the corresponding minidump (= with the corresponding timestamp) should be created automatically in C:\Windows\Minidump folder.

Found the minidump folder, but it’s empty :-\

Do a file search of your C: drive looking for files which match this pattern:

mini*.mdmp

I had exactly the same problem, first it was thought cyberlink was the problem so I uninstalled that, then it stopped the rebooting but my keyboard wouldn’t work so I have now given up and reinstalled the old version, it’s a shame as the old version worked and stil works just fine

Did a file search on the c:// disk, but the only result was the empty C://windows/minidump folder

Unfortunately, I’m on XP and the procedure for generating minidumps on Vista
is different than on XP so I’m not personally experienced with that. Hopefully
someone with experience generating and using minidumps under Vista will jump in
and give the particulars for enabling it.
